VI. PROPER DRESS

H. Players shall not be allowed to practice or participate in any game with any type of cast or splint. Removal of any type of cast or splint at the field or surrounding area in order to participate shall disqualify the player from practice or in any game.

1) May a player wear a cast or splint while participating in a game?

The AYSO National Rules and Regulations paragraph VI.H. states:

"Players shall not be allowed to practice or participate in any game with any type of cast or splint."

2) May a player remove a cast or splint in order to participate in a game?

The AYSO National Rules and Regulations paragraph VI.H. states:

"Removal of any type of cast or splint at the field or surrounding area in order to participate shall disqualify the player from practice or in any game."  Removable casts are designed to facilitate personal hygiene and dressing; they are not designed to be removed so that a player may engage in contact sports.

Soccer on TV.

I was watching a soccer game this weekend on Fox Sports (Manchester United vs. Newcastle) and saw a play I have a question about.

A Newcastle player attempted to pass the ball back to the goalkeeper, but Wayne Rooney (who was in an offside position) intercepted it and scored.  Is it not offside if the opposing player passes it back?

Good question. I am assuming that the Newcastle player was attempting to pass back to the keeper and then an opponent intercepted the pass. Law 11 states that a player can only penalized for being in an offside position if he is involved in play. He has to receive the ball by way of a pass or touch from a team mate. Since he received the ball from the opponent then there is no offside.
